Receiving K6BEN in south San Francisco bay area

K6BEN video repeater is on 427.25 MHz, same frequency as cable channel 58. To receive K6BEN, set your TV set to cable channel 58, connect a UHF antenna (vertically polarized) aimed at Mt. Hamilton (east SJ foothills). Recommended antenna is a UHF (70 cm) yagi antenna.

Current Status of Ames Re-transmission Equipment

We deployed a spare transmitter for Space Shuttle audio retransmission equipment, at full power too. It is a mobile 2meter rig from the early 1980s and it seems to work quite well operating 24/7. Previous equipment consists of an exciter, a pre-amp, and a RF amp. Exciter delivers about 1 watt but the “pre-amp” provides a little more kick to the RF amp. We need to replace the pre-amp or we may integrate the rig in use right now.

After STS-135 (last Space Shuttle flight), we will keep in place the re-transmission capability for other special events and occasional re-transmission of ISS activities.
